Our NEBDN Level 3 Dental Nursing Diploma is an online/distance learning based course, designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills required to excel in dental nursing.
This online course spans 12-18 months and includes theory modules, practical assessments, and the completion of a Portfolio of Experience (PoE) and final exams. Upon successful completion, you will be eligible to register with the General Dental Council (GDC) or the Irish Dental Council (IDC).
Course Outline:
1. Theory Course
Duration: 18 months (typically 12-14 months before written examination)
Format: Self directed learning (Remote learning except for induction), tutor-supported, with a mix of text, videos, tutorials, quizzes, and assessments.
Structure:
- Complete one module per month, each signed off by your personal tutor.
- Modules include a mix of text, videos, tutorials, assessments, and quizzes focused on specific topics.
- The theory course culminates in mock exams for both the Written and the Spoken exams.
2. Portfolio of evidence (PoE)
Purpose: Document and write up different procedures you perform as a trainee dental nurse.
Platform: Completed online on a platform separate from the theory course called Pebblepad
Components:
- 10 Units each following the same format
- Personal development profile
- Opportunity to work with your tutor to upload videos and photos to support your work.
3. Examinations
Written Exam: 90 minute – 75 multiple choice questions mapped to syllabus.
Professional Discussion (only completed once the PoE and written exam have been passed): 55 minute professional discussion covering the 9 standards as set out in the Dental Nurses scope of practice
Important Requirements for doing the Course:
Practice Support
Your dental practice/employer must support your training and their involvement is integral to your success.
You’ll have a main person at your practice acting as your Mentor and Witness.
Witness Toolkit
Mentors and witnesses should familiarize themselves with what is expected of them with regard to the course and Portfolio of Evidence
Fitness to Practice and Literacy Assessment
Prior to starting, you’ll undergo a fitness to practice assessment by your tutor to ensure you’re suitable for the course as well as a Literacy assessment
